Reviews
Quick Summary
Excellent breakfast and dinner experience. The views and service are spectacular. Marriott platinum elite free breakfast is nice with a breakfast bento box, but it's mostly carbs (need to pay extra for the standard buffet). Highly recommend the kona abalone, but their filet and catch of their day were solid as well. Highly recommend to book reservations to ensure a seat with a good view.
Food- 4.5 stars
Breakfast was good but as mentioned above, it's mostly carbs. Pastries are a hit or miss, but the banana bread is really good
Dinner was great. The Kona abalone was the star of the show. We also ordered the beet cheese salad, filet, and catch of the day which were really solid as well
Service- 5 stars
Servers were fantastic both times I dined here. No complaints at all
Views- 5 stars
Fantastic views in the morning and evening. Would recommend coming early for breakfast and getting reservations for dinner to get the more desirable outdoor tables
Bottom Line
Great food, excellent service, and beautiful views. Definitely a must if you are staying at the Mauna Kea Beach hotel
Best restaurant that we’ve tried on the big island. We read some negative reviews and were apprehensive about going, but are very glad we did. Our dinner was incredible.
We started with the cream of tomato soup, the beet root salad, and the crispy brussel sprouts. All three were great, but the tomato soup stood out as our favourite.
For desert we had the Bombe Alaska and the Lilikoi Soufflé (which is a new addition to the menu starting today). Both were amazing and I can’t recommend them highly enough.
Service was quick and excellent, unlike what we read in some other reviews. We were promptly seated and attended to, and our dishes came out in a very timely manner.
The restaurant itself is stunning and the views are gorgeous. After the sun sets be sure to go down to see the manta rays swimming under the lights.
Don’t believe some of the bad reviews - this was not our experience at all.
Absolutely amazing experience. We came here for our anniversary dinner and it was so amazing we booked another night. Nick out server was over the top knowledge about the food and wine. I cannot say enough about our experience and the views are perfect also!
My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon with dinner at Manta. We were seated right at our reservation time and were greeted with a couple glasses of complimentary champagne. We watched the sunset from our table. The views from Manta are incredible. We ordered the hearts of palm crudités for our appetizer. It was a good dish to wake up our palates, with bites of sweet, savory, and crunchy. We had the Mac-crusted Mahi Mahi and the Onaga (red snapper) with prawns for our mains. Both dishes were great. We then ordered the sorbet trio for dessert (pineapple, grapefruit, and blackberry). This was some of the best sorbet we’ve ever had. A great way to end a meal. Afterwards, we enjoyed watching the manta rays feed at the lookout. It was an incredible experience.
The service was great from start to finish. This is a fine dining restaurant, so don’t expect to be in and out in an hour. The servers don’t rush you to place your order. But, once your order is placed the food comes out quickly. Just enjoy your meal while taking in the incredible views.
The service was excellent and the food was great. We celebrated an anniversary and they helped to make it so special. The access to the beach is wonderful and makes for a great stroll before dinner. The bar is well stocked and supported by a wonder staff. The only knock I would give was specific to us. We we’re having a private dinner service and people rudely kept walking through our area. I wold say please block the sides to the terrace so as to avoid these rude interruptions to an otherwise excellent experience.
A really great experience, but very pricey at over $200 per person. Request a patio table because coming here and not enjoying the views would truly be a waste. Even after dark when you can’t really see the ocean the views of the property and lights in the water attracting Manta Rays and of snorkeling people swimming with them is great. And after dinner, you should definitely walk down to see the Manta that give the restaurant its name.
I like my steak more done than most, so I am often disappointed, however my NY Strip was perfectly medium well with a great char on the outside. My wife was very happy with her medium Fillet as well.
The scallops and lobster tail enhancements we each did were great.
The starter of tempura lobster tail was surprisingly good. I didn’t like the seafood bisque as well until I sliced up the lobster tail that was in it, with the bite of lobster the bisque then seemed perfect.
An amazing restaurant with phenomenal views, service and most importantly, food. You'll need a reservation and it's pricier than other restaurants in the area but worth it for the views and the Manta viewing after sunset. (The Manta viewing is free, you don't actually need to pay for it). Our server was one of the best servers I've had at any restaurant ever. And the New York steak was the most tender steak I've had. It's sourced from the ranches right there on the Big Island. Extremely juicy and full of flavour.
The best thing about this place is the room, the views, and the ambiance. The atmosphere is 10+ stars. The food is good, But the selection is a little limited. I didn’t take photos of the food but the ahi sashimi appetizer was great …but The service for dinner was awful. We were virtually ignored ….HOWEVER, when the server didn’t come back to see if we wanted more cocktails or dessert, we left the table and went back to the bar (bar staff ~ Jenna and Johnny ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️~ excellent). Apparently the word got to the manager who is a DREAM, and he TOTALLY took care of us ….so…because of the manager ~ “Monty at Manta”, the ambiance, the bartenders, the review went from 2 stars to 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️s. SERVICE MAKES A DIFFERENCE 🎉🎉🎉💗#loveMontyatManta
